Sediment & Erosion ControlSEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROL

Sediment and Erosion control is a hot environmental topic in the construction industry. Storm water run off is a natural cycle but the growth of our communities is compromising the quality of our waterways. Federal, provincial and municipal governments are working together to protect the environment by demanding developers be accountable for their urbanization activities.

While erosion and sedimentation is a natural process as well, the developing of lands through stripping and grading increases the erosion rate by 200 to 400 percent. There are many sources of information to find the Best Management Practice (BMP) of erosion and sediment controls. The City of Calgary has this information in their website.

Keystone Excavating Ltd. recognizes the issues at hand and actively adheres to the following practices:

  • Reduce vehicles on lot by off-loading over lot where possible
  • Sweep street when leaving site
  • Shut down operations in extremely wet conditions

For our customers, we are happy to assist them in their efforts to adhere to their own BMPs which may include the following measures:

  • Install silt fencing
  • Supply and Install temporary gravel pads on site
  • Ensure stockpiles are stabilized
  • Water truck to control dust

Protection of our water resources from construction related sedimentation and pollution is very important. It is everyone's responsibility to minimize erosion and prevent sediment from getting into our drainage systems and waterways.
